Galentine’s Day Getaways

By: Reese Watson

When I was younger, Valentine’s Day was all about cards, candy, and colorful banners. I used to love the holiday, it was a magical time of pink hearts and sparkles--you didn’t need anyone else, just the company of your heart and maybe a few extra friends. Now, Valentine’s day is just a drawn out event that passes in the blink of an eye. I can’t tell you just how many of them have slipped from my memory. It’s centered solely--for most people--around that special someone, that someone who is so high and mighty in the mind of Ccupid, that we carve out a whole day to treat them. Well, I don’t have someone to do that for me, but I do have something better, my gal pals, you know, my friends. Not my Valentine’s per say, but my--wait what’s the word--oh right…my Galentine’s.

Every year Valentine’s Day comes and goes, and every year women spend the day hallowed up in their homes, scooping copious amounts of ice cream into their mouths, while watching arguably amazing rom-coms. The cycle ends now. Valentine’s day is a day to treasure the ones you love, why just stop at your significant other, why not include so much more. I declare February fourteenth to be the new and improved Galentine’s Day. So now that you know this, you’re gonna need something to do with your friends on this occasion that doesn’t include hand-holding, romantic movie dates, or awkward cuddling--and thank god, because I have the list just for you.

#1: The Succulent Shop

Located in Broken Arrow, The Succulent Shop is not your average plant-centered store. The shop itself has an entire floor dedicated to a wide variety of house plants, locally-made artisan gifts, as well as workshops, and a bar filled with all kinds of drinks--both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. This store has tons of options available for your Galentine’s Day out; groups of six to twelve can attend the DIY plant bar, plant workshops, and table rentals are an awesome way to guarantee your group's spot. All of this allows for a fun time and bright atmosphere, not to mention you also get to leave with your very own pot and succulent plant arrangement. A perfect event for a big group, looking for something new and fun.

#2: Pinot’s Palette

With three locations centered in Tulsa, including one on the Riverwalk in Jenks, Pinot’s Palette is a place centered around hosting tutorial based painting classes, where an instructor goes step by step through unique paintings. As you do that, music blares over the speakers, as drinks of all kinds come from the open bar. Ranging from forty to fifty dollars a person, these classes are an immersive experience, creating a fun time from its electric atmosphere. Pinot’s Palette is offering classes for Valentine's Day themed painting from February fifth to seventeenth, for example, heart shaped candies and fun heart decorated designs. This is the perfect thing for groups of all sizes, and is a great way to have a fun time while trying something new if you don't usually pick up a paintbrush.

#3:
Be Love Galentine’s Day Yoga

Wanna relax on Valentine’s Day? Want to get entwined with your inner zen? Be Love Yoga is hosting a Galentines ladies only event that involves soft Thai bodywork, aromatherapy, and self care techniques, including foot massage based on the Chinese meridian theory. With class instructors and yoga materials provided, and spots starting at thirty-five dollars, this is a great way to create some new bonds and memories with your fans. The event itself is scheduled for February eighteenth, at two o'clock, and lasts for about an hour and a half. This is a unique event, allowing for you not only to celebrate your friends, but also yourself in the process.

#4: Board And Brush

Valentine’s Day is centered around food and fun, at Board And Brush, you get just that with their most popular DIY workshop centered around creating your own unique wood sign. Home decor or charcuterie, the boards are yours to create, materials and instruction provided, as well as your choice from a variety of wood stains and paints. Scheduled for February eighteenth, between six and nine o’clock, Board And Brush is offering a Galentine’s Day special for two starting at a hundred and ten dollars. The boards are able to be customized to no end, including wording, designs, and pictures--everything to tailor your unique experience. This is the perfect event for a close pair and frequent crafters willing to spend a little extra on that perfect Galentine’s Day date.

#5: Full Bloom Flower Bar

Ah, Valentine’s Day, the time of year where--like relationships--flowers bloom and die. Maybe no one ever gave you a bouquet? Maybe you’re a little bitter about that? But good thing you can go to American Solera brewery, which is partnering with Full Bloom, and take your friends to make your own Valentines bouquet or arrangement. Desserts, cheese boards, and drinks of all kinds are provided, while you have to pick flowers and choose between putting them in pink-dotted pots or XO  glass envelopes. Tickets range from twenty five to forty five dollars, with the event taking place Sunday, February eighteenth, from two to five p.m. This is the perfect event for girls who want to buy themselves flowers for a change.

Valentine’s Day can be for everyone, not just the ones seeking a relationship, not just the ones who are society's commercialized picture of what the holiday should be. February fourteenth should be a day of honoring all those you love--a day of going out and feeling that love. It doesn’t have to just be Valentine’s Day. Why not spend the day stuffing your faces together while eating cheap chocolate, or decorating yourself a bouquet of freaking flowers?! You deserve it. So, for anyone asking this year I declare it Galentine’s Day.
