With the 2025 football season coming to an end, basketball is going to be the focus of our students and staff during these next few months. With insight from varsity basketball player Ryan Goodwin, I’m here to give you the inside scoop on how our players are feeling and what to expect for this upcoming season.

When it comes to bringing the energy—on or off the court—Goodwin is your guy. Having played basketball since he was a young boy, Goodwin has always pushed toward success for any team he plays for. This year, Goodwin says his main goal is for the team to make it to state.

Considering Jenks boys’ varsity has been state runner-up four times, making it to state would not only be a chance for success but also an opportunity for the team to work together to achieve something meaningful for all of them. In recent years, Jenks has brought in a new head coach who has a history of leading teams to victory. Hopefully, with Coach McChesney’s previous experience and our players’ hard work, Jenks’ chances of winning state are looking up.

“Teamwork. I feel like some of us get selfish at some points, so for all of us to work as a team and move the ball,” said Goodwin when asked what he thinks will be the team’s biggest strength this season.

This statement reflects the awareness within the team and shows that players can identify what they need to improve on individually in order to come together and represent our school.

“Our chemistry is really good. I feel like we are all really good friends outside of school, and that is a big part of being on the basketball team,” said Goodwin regarding the team’s chemistry.

Team chemistry also plays a big role in how our players support each other. If Jenks is good at anything, it’s bringing the energy to our student sections.

“It does a lot, actually. All the fans bring a lot more energy to the team, and I feel like we have more power to win, in a way,” said Goodwin when asked how the student section and crowd impact his performance as a player.
