Colorful trifolds that tell stories of generations, games from all over the world, kids opening their eyes and their minds to cultures they had never been exposed to. In the early October air, you can hear the laughter and awe coming from the kids as they go from region to region, gaining a more cross-cultural understanding.

Jenks High School has a rich history, especially in football. The Oklahoma powerhouse is home to 18 State Championships. The dominance of this scale was built by legendary coaching, from the founder of the standard R. Perry Beaver to the legendary Allan Trimble, and then the bridge Keith Riggs. 

The first people to greet you on the first day of school, the ones who come out for a section of a pep rally, and the group you can hear from the bleachers of a football game, the drumline. The Jenks Trojan drumline is a group of 20 percussionists who practice countless hours a week to be perfectly prepared for competitions and special gigs throughout the school year. 

Last school year, phones were a common sight in our school days. Students' eyes glued to their phones at lunch, surrounded by their peers, who did the same, AirPods in both ears, blasting music. Hallways were filled with teenagers texting or calling as they walked from class to class. But since the ¨bell-to-bell¨ state wide phone ban was implemented, things have changed---not a phone in sight. Whether you're for the ban or against it, it seems like everyone has an opinion. Concerns for safety and being able to focus without music battle reports of more involved and more social classes. An anonymous survey was conducted as an opportunity for students to express how they really feel, in their own words. From Freshmen to Seniors, our Jenks student body has had a lot to say about it.

When Addy Gaylor walks into a pep rally, the energy shifts. As the first female president of Jenks High School’s school spirit organization Superfans, her goal isn’t just to be the one to start chants and dress up for themes. She wants to lead by example, and show what it means to lead with spirit, humility, and purpose.

New year, new team, new chemistry, new opportunities, fresh start. This 25-26 season, the Trojans are looking for the ultimate accomplishment: Winning State. After a stretch of increasingly better years, the Trojans are looking to finally get to the holy grail, and prove their dominance in the state.

On Friday, September 25th, blinding lights will illuminate the field, and cheers will erupt from the stands as the Jenks Trojans step onto the field, ready to take on who most say is their biggest rival: the Bixby Spartans. The yearly ritual of a brutal battle on-field occurs this time with both teams nationally ranked: Jenks ranked #25 and Bixby ranked #2, according to on3.com’s rankings.

You slide on your shoes, maybe even put bandaids on your heels, your shoes rub against your swollen ankles leaving little bubbles of flesh. Whether it be heels or dress shoes we can all agree while the blisters persist for weeks nothing can compete with this school event. The glimmering lights, blaring music, a dumb poster and uncomfortable shoes…HOCO. A school tradition, which prides itself on welcoming a new football season is a sizable price tag and planning tradition. Jenks’ STUCO event planners, Riley Sharp and Madelynn Goss, give us a hefty update on the 2025 dance and how tradition meets planning.

With modern media like Twitch and YouTube, gameplays have become one of the biggest trends that have only continued to grow in the last decade, especially post-COVID. People our age are getting their first good gaming set-ups and deciding to stream Fortnite or their hardcore Minecraft world, hoping to make it big. However, they have no idea that they could start making it big with their gaming at school.

Dunk tanks, water balloons, and the aroma of barbecue in the air—what do they all have in common? Hometown Huddle. Each year, Jenks holds a fundraiser downtown that brings students together to form a community and raise money for Jenks students and their sports.

Our technological world is ever-presently changing. With the rise of the internet in the early 90s, social media in the early 2000s, and now the emergence of artificial intelligence. We are constantly having to face changes and adapt to those changes, so how do we know what's right and wrong?

The Jenks Trojans have been a powerhouse in Oklahoma football since the 90s, and have no plans of being out of contention for the state title. They have seen many rivalries, coaches, and athletes over the years, but their standard of excellence has remained the same.

With 38 state titles, the Jenks Swim Team has quite the standard to uphold. After seven years, Jenks’ beloved head coach Diego Henao stepped down from his position this past spring; this left a pronounced hole in Jenks Swimming in need of being filled.

The spotlight shined bright at the Jenks Performing Arts Center on a Tuesday night as more than 150 Jenks High School students took the runway for the 27th annual Jenks Pom Fashion Show. With this year’s theme, “Living the Dream,” the showcase blended glamour, school spirit, and Trojan pride—both raising vital funds for the nationally recognized pom program and celebrating the latest trends in homecoming and prom fashion.

You're sitting in a classroom surrounded by your fellow elementary students, but instead of the usual table groups and chatter, the desks are arranged in neat rows, and the silence is thick with worry. You're staring at a math question that looks like it was written in another language, and your heart feels like it's about to beat out of your chest. You can see your other classmates finishing the test but you are nowhere near done. Your stomach is now doing flip-flops, and the clock is ticking louder and louder. You could swear you've never seen this kind of math before. And the clock is still ticking. And you're running out of time. And you bubble in C and pray you guessed right before moving to the next question.

Jenks Community Education has been providing drivers education to the Jenks community for over 30 years. However, they have now expanded their opportunities and are now offering drivers tests on-site at Jenks Community Ed. Their new motto, “Skip the Line,” encapsulates the full service experience they now supply. Mike Gaines, a Jenks High School teacher and driving instructor with Jenks Community Ed., says the new motto was his own handiwork.

Struggling happens to everyone, whether that's a physical or mental struggle.  The topic of mental health and suicide is a huge stigma in our society but should be discussed more often. In 2023 the CDC said around 12.8 million people thought about committing suicide, while 3.7 million made a plan to commit, and 1.5 million attempted. In that same year 49,000 people committed suicide- that’s one nearly every 11 minutes.

It’s very rare to find a lone building without capturing some nearby greenery. Parks, plants and trees now invade the area that some would consider chaos. This chaos refers to no place other than our very own, Downtown Tulsa. 

Almost 75% of the global population is dairy free. 10.8% experience some sort of food allergies. 30% of the population have allergies revolving around gluten. Although I may not be a part of that 30%, I am determined to experience how those individuals live their day-to-day lives eating gluten free. It’s difficult to find accommodations, snacks and meals that actually taste good in the GF community. My goal is to pinpoint quick and tasty meals while going gluten free for an entire week. While this may seem easy to some, it is most definitely a large task that some people have to uphold for the rest of their lives. Throughout this story, I will log the food and feelings I have while completing each day. I hope that by the end, you have more respect for the GF community and more motivation to complete the goals that you have set in mind even if it seems to be difficult. 

It was the summer before 6th grade and my older cousin was in town staying with us. She was going to school in California at the time so she was very in touch with her hip trendy side. In a conversation with her I mentioned how recently I was thinking about eating less meat because the idea of eating animals started bothering me more and more. I remember she looked at me and said she could picture me becoming a vegetarian, so I took that and ran.
